The Family Story Behind Alfred’s Roofing

The owners of Alfred’s Roofing have been working on Clark County rooftops since before the company had a name, building the kind of reputation that gets passed from neighbor to neighbor and from builder to builder for over three decades.

The family has been roofing Clark County homes since 1994. In 2015, that work took the Alfred’s Roofing name, when the Skulbru and Gomez families turned a long partnership into one family-owned company. The standard comes from everything the crew learned in the two decades before it.

From a 1994 Startup to a 20-Person Local Team

The story didn’t start with the name. It started in 1994, when David Skulbru Sr. opened the doors to a small Clark County roofing operation. His father, Nils Skulbru, eventually took the reins, running the business as a subcontractor and routing work through a rotating list of partner companies. It worked for a while. But after years of trusting other crews to carry the Skulbru name, the family decided something had to change.

In 2015, Nils joined forces with Jose Alfredo Gomez. Together, they pulled the work back in house, hired a permanent crew, and turned a subcontract operation into a real company with one shared standard. That’s the year Alfred’s Roofing was born.

Today

A 20-person crew, a Battle Ground shop, and homes and builders served across Southwest Washington.

For most of our history, we grew on referrals alone. Every new customer came from a neighbor, a builder, or a job well done. We’ve added marketing in recent years, but the standard hasn’t changed: do the work right the first time, and let it speak for itself.

Make It Look Like We Were Never There

“The only thing a homeowner should notice when we leave is the new roof over their head.”

Ask anyone on our crew what we stand for, and you’ll hear the same line: make it look like we were never there. It’s the principle that shapes every job we run. No nails in the driveway. No tarps in the bushes. No sign that twenty people just spent three days working above their living room.

🧹

Cleaned Up Every Single Day

We don’t wait until the final day to clean. Every evening, the site gets reset so it looks like the project is on a planned overnight break, not paused mid-mess.

Permanent Fixes Over Quick Patches

We don’t sell a repair that buys you a few weeks. If a roof needs more than what we’re being asked to do, we’ll tell you. Then we fix it right with quality materials, the first time.

A Real Person, No Pressure

You’ll never get a hard sell or a runaround from us. When you call, you reach someone who can actually help, and when you ask a question, you get a straight answer.

This is how we approach every job, from a single shingle replacement to a full roof replacement. The standard doesn’t change based on the size of the project, the size of the budget, or who’s watching.

Why We Invest in Our Team First

We’ve built Alfred’s Roofing around a simple priority: people over polish. Instead of expensive offices and trucks that cost more than the roofs we install, we invest in the crew that actually does the work. That choice keeps our overhead low and our quotes fair.

Our crew is the reason this company exists. They’re the ones on the roof in the rain, on the ladder in the heat, and back the next morning to do it all again. We feed them lunch as often as we can, we tell them when they’ve done good work, and we build a company that treats them the way every employer should.

Because at the end of the day, the guys swinging hammers are the reason any of us have a roof over our heads. We don’t forget that, and we don’t want our customers to either.

Three Decades of Builder Partnerships and What’s Next

Some of the builders who hired David Skulbru in the 1990s still call us today. They don’t ask for a portfolio. They tell us where the job is and trust the work will be done right. That kind of relationship gets built across thirty years, one job at a time.

Our roots run deepest in Battle Ground and Ridgefield, but we’ve installed roofs across Vancouver, Felida, Camas, and the surrounding Southwest Washington communities.

We hold certifications with the manufacturers homeowners actually recognize. We’re a GAF Master Elite contractor, a distinction earned by a small percentage of roofers nationwide, and a Brava Authorized Contractor for composite tile. We’re also certified with IKO and Malarkey, along with other low pitch and steep pitch brands and we partner with a local family-owned metal roofing supplier so we can support the kind of small business we are.
